In English, we do not need articles. We just say « I like bread. » In French, we must use the article « le » – J‘aime le pain.
In English, the word « some » is not mandatory. We can say, « I want bread. » But in French we MUST say, I would like some bread. Je voudrais DU pain. (Because we do not want ALL of the bread in the world, we only want ‘part’ of it – le partitif = some; and we say Je voudrais, I woud like, because we are not rude). I have taught this, but want to review: The way to say some is to add the following two things together:
